CONNECTION AND TESTING
Goodram CX400 GEN.2 is made in 2.5 ″ format, interface - SATA III, with backward compatibility with SATA II and SATA I. Naturally, when connecting to outdated ports, the data transfer rate will be limited by their capabilities.
After initializing the drive and creating a new volume, it appeared in the system, giving its size - 954 GB. The manufacturer does not indicate the exact volume of data that can be written to this SSD but notes that its service life is 2 million hours.
The device has a Phison PS3111-S11 controller and uses TLC 3D NAND memory, which is more durable when compared to older traditional 2D drives from the previous generation. An inexpensive controller and memory, together with a small buffer, do not give the most outstanding characteristics, however, in regular scenarios of using this SSD, an average user may not notice the difference with more expensive drives: slowdown is observed while transferring large volume of data, which rarely happens in daily work. And for professional tasks, devices with high technical characteristics are usually purchased.
In synthetic tests, Goodram CX400 showed read and write data close to the passport parameters. In addition, the drive easily fit into the intended slot of the laptop and demonstrated a low temperature - about 35 ° - even under load.
When it comes to gaming performance, it's okay too. The drive is many times superior to HDD and competes on equal terms with NVMe SSD, lagging behind a couple of seconds in the loading speed of game saves - modern games have not yet shown a real increase when using advanced interfaces, ordinary SATA III is enough for them.
CONCLUSION
This is a reliable and relatively inexpensive drive (about $ 106). Its read and write performance is in line with the stated, and the small memory buffer will not be a problem for those who do not perform specific tasks. The solid-state device is equally well suited for games, and for installing the OS, and for storing files. Considering its cost, this is the best budget option.
Package and design
The Goodram CX400 GEN.2 package is very modest: a plastic blister is attached to the cardboard box, through which you can see the SSD. On the back of the package, there is technical information, of which the most interesting is the 3-year warranty.
The drive itself is also not distinguished by its exquisite appearance (but is it needed?): a flat black parallelepiped, where the blue tag with the brand name became the only bright spot. The front side shows the volume (in my case - 1 TB) and model revision, the backside - the serial number, form factor, and other technical details. One of the sides of the device is given to power and data connectors, and the plastic case has threaded holes for attaching to the PC.
